How many pairs or birds did you start with to get you started? Or did you start with a full kit, and chose the ones you liked?

SuperX, After a false start everything I have is descended from one cock and two hens. I'm too old and toooo dumb to be able to factor in all the variables from starting with more birds. I can now look at any bird and know which side of my family tree it comes from. I will add that I'm keeping both lines separate from the other at this point but I might make limited crosses in the future.

Booker, Some will argue but I think that is the way to build a family. Also I like the parody and I wish you well with yours.

Yea understood oldfart, But for me it just made things clear, if they were junk I would reconize it from the gettieup, instead of spending more time or money. Just easer to see the results. And if I was to do it all over agian I would do the same even if I had 3pair. I would just break it down into two 18month stages or so, and go from there. Hopefully one could see the results in about 3years or so,,

I started with too many like everyone , but then out of them I found a few good ones and worked around those.

Superx, Scott said it all, and luckily like Scott I had the ones I needed, it just took a little time to sort them out.
The hard part was doing what was needed to correct my over exuberance.

4 pair from a line that I flew for 8 years befor reality set in. I was looking for something those birds were never going to give me. I still only breed from 6-10 pair and focus more on the % of good ones produced by a pair. Its much easier to fly 60-80 birds than 200. Joe

Five close...close.. related birds
Two of the birds were brother/sister mated
together...parents were brother/sister mating as well.
The last three were..two cocks & one hen...of these three.. cock and hen were brother sister..last cock 1/2 brother to cock and hen.
Of these three mated 1/2 brother on offspring of the four originals.

I didn't breed this way on purpose it was all that I had at the time not much choice in the beganning. I had no idea of pedigrees until few years down the road of breeding the originals.

I have been breeding birds off originals..this way since 1995.
