Do you guys think it is o.k. to breed lazy birds as long as they are some of your best performers? Do you think their offspring will come out lazy too?

Hi Baldy, It has been my experience as far back as the 50's that if you use lazy birds if I understand you right that you tend to get outflyers and birds that come down early. If you fly competetion thats a NO NO. If you are a back yard flyer then go for it if thats all you have to breed from but I would look for some working rollers that can stand the line and inbreeding to get better performers. Steve S.

It sits on the telephone wires almost immediately after releasing the kit.

Baldy it can be a couple of things, either she's to hot and afraid to fly (probably bumped hard),or she's not keeping up as far as the feed,I normally get a few birds in the team that roll like gangbusters but I have to keep an eye on them and make sure that they are getting enough grub,if she's too hot sometimes they need to get thier confidence back as far as flying and needs to learn to get a handle on the roll ,feed her a rich mix with popcorn this will give her the strength to help her resist the roll impulse, most likely the roll impulse is just too much for her to handle and many times it's just a phase that they need to work through, but whatever you do you need to get her off that wire before she gets company from the other kit mates, but if she's not able to work through it then I'm afraid she's hopeless and "I" certainly wouldnt breed from her. thats my opinion

Cull it, but make sure it doesn't show up in the wild. If your thinking of giving it to another flyer, make sure he/she knows about this behavior. Then between the two of you you can cull it for real.
