We are VERY new to this, with only five birds: two red fliers, two white breeders, and a new white hatchling. I put them all in a nice big cage I built with flight cage, nesting boxes, perches, ventilation, etc. The cage is great, the problem is the birds.
The dominant red bird was really after one of the breeders, constantly pecking and bugging him,so we separated them. The white breeders are in a smaller cage with the newborn. I am concerned if I put the breeders and the baby back in, the dominant red bird will kill them.
DO I need a separate cage for the breeders an fliers? Can the new baby go in with the red birds alone when it gets a little older and bigger (about two weeks old now)? Do some birds have to remain separate forever? Do I need to build a separate cage for the breeders? ANY insights are greatly appreciated

you need to cull the red bird (another way of saying "kill")he is not the kind of temperment you need in your loft and if you continue keeping him he will breed the same kind of behavior>

do not kill that bird. i had birds like that and what i did was i mated the dominate bird and it had its own squab's, so it stopped killing other squabs. give it time and what i did to mate him was place him and the bird that i wanted him to mate with in a small cage for one week. after that week i returned him and his mate to the main cage and had no problems after that. his off spring never acted like him and i got 8 squabs from him.
PS..... DO NOT KILL THAT BIRD!!

Hello (son loves rollers), You said the red bird is a flyer so just keep him with the flyers in a kit box and seperate the breeders from the flyers. When you get cock birds that are aggressive foster out the eggs to other birds that lay within 3 days of the agressive cock and his mate. Most cocks will scalp the young when they are not feeding young of their own. Only breed from the best rollers that you fly for about 18 months to 2 years of age as to make sure they are stable and of good speed and quality. Later Steve S.
