For starters take a look at the pictures in the Ruby Roller picture gallery. Compare the bird you are getting to these.

Is there any reason to doubt that the bird is a Roller? If so, can you trust the individual that is providing the bird?

On the ground, a Roller does not have distinguishing marks or physical traits that indicate if it is a Roller or not.

However, in the air a Birmingham Roller will roll backward with such velocity that you cannot count the revolutions. It will also drop some distance. A common roller or tumbler will flip a couple times and is not worth very much.

A fully developed roller that is not able to perform like a Birmingham roller cannot be trained to roll any better than it already does. It is doing the best it can with what it has.

A properly bred kit of Birmingham Rollers will tend to respond to training by performing many rolls of varying depths.

A mature roller that merely flips is not worth very much. It does not have the “gene pool” to perform any better.

FLY ON!

The best test is to ask the breeder you are buying from to fly his birds and see if they are what you are looking for. Unlike toy pigeons, you can't tell how good they are buy just lloking at them sitting on a perch in the loft. I made that mistake before...

It's hard to show as the web site won't let you post pictures.
