First of all, I DO NOT PICK FROM THE PERCH. This is just a QUESTION.. lol Do you think you could walk into a loft with several birds and pick one that would definitely be able to spin without seeing it fly. If you could, what would you look for exactly? Just wondering.. like I said, I wouldn't do this and I don't!

I can spot hot pigeons, the ones that have the look I think is hot have flater heads, thinner faces and necks, very slender flights, tend to be on the smaller side. The problem I have is I cant always breed from these birds as I have a problem controling the depth. I do like the deeper birds. Back in the day I did go into this guys loft and buy his best bird although he didnt know it. I took the bird home flew it, it never spun over 10 ft, but I knew I could cross it on my birds that had that certain look, an he produced a lot of good spinners for me. That guy got him from a feed store. it's not something I would do now,as I said that was a long time ago. I really have to watch how I balance my breedings, otherwise I get poor feather quality and the velocity just tear up their feathers and I start getting rolldowns.

Good post.. I like thick necks, flat heads, and short tails with some exceptions.. (I also want them to be bulky up front and thin at the back..)

The fastest birds I have usually are narrower in the chest so I cant always put the best to the best, but I will find the best mate for that particular bird. If I find two birds tha I think are exceptional and I cant put them together I will balance them and hope I can put their offspring to gether. So every mating is planned to do something later on if it works out. Sometimes I have to get 6 or 8 babies together to find two that I can mate up.

I THINK...A ROLLER THAT CARRIES ITS WING UNDER THE TAIL....MOST OF TEH TIME IT TELLS THAT THE BIRD IS A GOOD SPINNER/FREQUENT....IN MODERATE SHAPE..NOT TO POOR NOT TO SHOWY LIKE A SHOW BIRD..

It's like the difference between a draft horse and a race horse. Form follows function.
