At My local feed supplier a 50 LB bag of wheat went from 6.00 to 18.00, Now he says he can't get the wheat any more..
For the flyer's I use a Wheat/Milo mix,
So what are you guys feeding the flyer's???

90% wheat,10% milo, handfull of milo to trap''em in.Every 10 days or so I give 'em a YB mix as a treat.Even tho wheat has shot up in price it is still the cheapest feed 'cept for corn maybe not popcorn tho $43 here.I say to heck with the expense, this is our birds we're talking about.

Mike if wheat is no longer available you can use the nutriblend gold it is not the easiest thing to work rollers with but it will substitute.its 14% and i played with it for a while buy its self its hard to regulate but it can be fed straight i still add it in my mix but its costly.

Ty,
I also use the nutriblend green, The green is 14 and the gold is 18. Only thing about feeding straight pellets is the droppings are pretty nasty and they drink a lot more water. Like you I use them as an ingredient.

Mike,
there are other places that sell wheat so dont let your loyalties get in the way of properly feeding your birds.

You can use chicken scratch as a substitute which is cheaper. Lots of old timers use that feed.

Three grain scratch is a good substitute for wheat milo mix. It has corn, milo, and wheat mixed. I have had to use it in a pinch. Wheat shouldnt be a problem soon as the crop forecast is above predicted.

I know this is only practical for the guys within driving distance, but Danny Horner has a lot of hard red wheat for sale. 2 skids, It is food grade quality, comes in 6 gallon sealed buckets, 55 lbs, and is the cleanest wheat I've ever seen. $20.00. several of us N.C. guys have been feeding it and the Birds do awesome on it. Thought I would post this if it can help anyone. Later Chuck

That sounds like some good quality stuff Chuck, past few years I only buy from a planting seed company (non treated) and is also high quality.
Alot of the higher quality Wheat can push 16 0/0 protein, on lesser quality "feed" grade Wheat I feed straight in mild weather, but with the higher quality Wheats I cut with Milo to weaken some, "my" flyers do better this way.

Scott, Yea, this wheat has a lot more protein. I'm only giving a 18 Bird ration to 22 Birds. I've been feeding it for 3 months now and man, My Birds are deeper, tighter, and faster than ever. I can't imagine that I raised that many better Birds. Even the older Birds are better. If You are the Scott with the great score, Way to kick butt with those pure BR's. If not, disregard, Later Man Chuck
