Hey Silver,
Joe lives close to me, We use to visit Joe and John a lot when this area was booming in the roller hobby. But Joe got out of rollers back in 1996 and since then retired from the laborers local. WE ask Joe a few times if he ever would get back into the hobby and he always said I don't believe I ever will again. It was a sad day when Joe got out.
There isn't many still flying the Roe birds. I believe Steve Sissel and a few up north might be flying them but you don't hear much about the Roe birds.
I know they wasn't for the new guy, what I mean they were hard to get right on fly day. I worked with the Roe birds from 1994 until 2002 and switched families.
I think Richard Miller still has some of the old 327 {oddside} blood from Joe. Richard received 577 from Joe when Joe got out and I know 577 was a true stock cock.
But to find a true Roe bird it would be 12 years old right now so your search might be a little rough.
Best of luck

Silver,
I have a copy of Joes records, Brett McCormick received the books and copied the last 5 years or so. Richard Miller has the original books. But I don't know if he still has them. I copied all of Joes records to one of my computers and they are still on there. Let me know what the band is and I will see what I can find out for you.
Thanks Brian

Richard Miller is about out of birds. I have some of the old roe stuff. Been flying them since 2006. I have a daughter off the 577 cock. To me there second to none. There not that hard to fly if you know what your doing. Richard and I sent birds to Don Lopez on ohahu Hi. Don said he's only going to breed out of the birds we sent him. There doing good for him. I met Richard with Ron Kumaro. they came up to judge are World Fly, back in 97 or 98, I believe I got to the fly offs that year.
Never saw Richards birds fly, but was to Ron's a few times. I learned a lot about birds at Ron's. Ron I believe was flying Hardesty's birds.
RON KUMARO is great man & should be honored as a roller contributer.

I saw Richards birds in the 06 fall fly. I went with the judge that year, 5 states. Richard Millers birds were probably the best I seen that week. If I remember right, he won a Qualifier position but backed out of the finals for personal reasons. Great man, great birds...

I know Joe got straight Smith and Plona youngsters, several times fron Harry Ashcraft,in Middletown,Ohio about 2 yrs before he won, which leaves a question,,were these birds flown in his kit,, or their offspring flown???.. Harry flew top shelf Pensoms....LEO

Leo,
I talked to Joe and he said none of Harrys birds were in the makeup of his 93 W/C kit.
He said they were from 1-81 bird some 84-85 and a couple 90 birds.
I have raised some good spinners from a few pair from 90-94- and some birds Joe gave his nephew Steve Gamble.
John Bender has some Roe decendants and 2 other guys
in our area of southern Ohio.
A fella in Kansas has some good ones from Rich Miller.
Richard said he let 1 guy have"sold" most of his breeders.

thanks Steve for clearing up some of the miss information.
The birds Joe flew in the WC in 1993 were all Hardesty blood line that Joe raised. I am not sure but think there were some of Joe"s black family might have been in the kit but don't think so. Allmost all the WC birds were 1992 yearlings that he flew.
Leo I would be interested to know who you are. Don't remember a Leo who flew in that area. As far a Pensom birds I would imagine most of the rollers in the US have some back ground of birds that passed through Mr Pensoms hand. I am not aware of Mr Pensoms having started a family of rollers such as The Higgins,Houton and several other in the states who made a family of rollers. Pensoms birds were mostly birds that he got from others. Mr Pensom probably did more to promote the Birmingham Roller in this country than all the others together. At this time in the roller hobby he was a God send.

HI Richard. All the breeders are looking super good. The 577 hen went through a really good molt and she is looking super. If we get another couple weeks of mild weather I'll pair them up. I've been able to fly the young birds with no problems. I'll call you this weekened. Jim Bowen

No I don't remember 1601.
I do remember the other band numbers. Some very good breeders in there.
I really never flew much of the andalusion birds. they had lot of roll and were fast, and deep.
319-324 were the parents of 577 and many other birds as good as he was
