Nice post Brian,
If you`re lucky,I mean really lucky you`ll get one pair of decent birds from the first kit of yb`s. Next that kit if you`re lucky again you`ll get another pair.
Watch em closely and be true to what you learn. It`s all a series of baby steps. The guys that do well right off the bat are the exception rather than the norm. Takes a lot of watching and hard work. Figure five year from the time you start til you have "the goods".

Very good post Brian. I started my competition path with what was behind door number one. Of course I am a novice in comp only. I started three years ago with the family I have now and have never seen six of my eight stock birds fly. I was also very lucky in that the first pair I got has produced a very high number of quality kit birds. The jury is still out on the others. I will have a kit to put up in the spring. By then I may have one full kit of brothers and sisters to fly.

If just a few beginners read and heed your post they will be well ahead of the game.
