I up loaded some footage of some guys who flew Plona based birds in the past. It is pretty random so there are guys on there that doesn't as well. Well, just take a lookie. Some great all time Roller men in there.
Coyote,
You may find this interesting as many of those birds are the parents to the stock you acquired.
Enjoy, Thor

Great archives you got there Thor. I ran across several other videos on youtube.
Hmm....
It appears you have been quite busy. That's a good thing!
I say take full advantage of modern technology and display your wonderful talents and magnificent gifts to the global community which is eager to learn new things.
It is funny when I hear you and Rollerman (Steve) talk about Pure Plonas :)
In portion of the clip, you will hear the late Jim Fisher (Iowa) talk about 14686. That is a bird bred by Stan Plona. Band number is 1971 PRC 14686 Lavender Grizzle Tick (also known as white tick) full nest mate to the famous 1971 PRC 14687 White Tick (photoed in many of the Roller books).
photo of 14686
Paused at 5:32 is another Stan Plona bred bird band number 1979 PRC 3803 (I believe).
Paused at 6:39 is another Stan Plona bred bird Lavender Mark. I know my friend John used that bird there to cross into his Bob Evan's line to add Spread into his birds at one time.
There are a few more in there but I am not sure which is which as that was before my time.
Now, it can not get any Pure than those birds there. Bred by the man himself Stan Plona.
Glad you enjoyed the videos.... This is a classic and it would be a shame not to share it.

Tell me about it. I think that was a clip of a back yard flier and his birds. The fellow was on route to the next place. Looks the part of a back yarder. Seems like those birds there were free lofted. Makes sense why they never took to the air.

I appreciate the time and energy you have graciously spent to bring to us the magnificent videos. Great work!
Hmm....
In all my years of dealing with roller pigeons there are 3 types.
1) Roller Men 2) Roller Gal's 3) Roller People
NOTE: The Roller Men are dedicated breeders/trainers/flyers who take great pleasure in the sport and are always seeking ways to take this hobby to a higher level. Men such as Pensom, Plona, Smith, Navarro, Higgins, Stevens, London, Reed, Evans, Kopp, Neible, Hilton, Houghton, Lavin, Scott, Perkins, Jaconette, McCully, Easley and Oullette are all great Roller Men in my opinion.
Roller Gal's are the females in our small tight-knit family of roller fanciers. Many of them tend to breed for color. (But please don't tell them that because some of these gals possess quality spinners in their lofts and breeding pens.... and will be highly offended).
Last but not least.... there are those I refer to as merely Roller People. These are the folks who buy birds from pet shops, trap other guys rollers on purpose (strays) and keep them with no intention to return them... and will even steal other fanciers birds if given the opportunity to criminalize some other fanciers hard work.
...okay now let's see here
Thor my good man, I consider you a Roller Man! On that note I would like to extend my open arms in friendship to you. I sincerely hope that you faithfully continue to provide more intellectual and articulate material regarding the Birmingham Roller Pigeon.
Talk to you later....

I think you were referring to Jim Fisher's birds. I'm not familiar with his side of the Plona based birds. I recall using a 1993 Red Grizzle hen bred by him at one time. She was suppose to have been the best kit bird in Jim's team before he passed away. Her pedigree had a lot of Tom Stone (PA) birds in their back ground along with some John White (IA) birds. Jim was noted to have flown some of the best competition teams around our neck of the woods. The roll was there in the hen I used, just bred way too many wild side character birds for my taste.
Maybe some one in Iowa can better answer the questions about Jim's birds. As you know, our birds pretty much originated down from the same breeders. It is what we make of them that counts the most.
I know those line bred JLS based birds sure can carry a lot of that muff stuff. I think Thomas Hatcher bred down from that line and it shows.
That bird of yours sure does take a nice photo. Is it a '91 bred :)
I told you in a earlier post that instead of showing photos, I'd post a vid. The weather has just been awful the past two days. Rain and snow mix for the past 30 hours straight. Figured I'd get to it before the Steal Head run kicks in full gear.
Thanks for the kind word. This hobby is filled with great people. I'm just happy I can contribute.
Thor... are we talking Salmon A.K.A Rainbow Trout?
I love this fish! It's high in Omega 3-Fatty acids.
NOTE: Rainbow Trout and Steelhead Salmon are the same fish and recognized by a hooked snout. The scientific name is "Oncorhynchus" which is Greek meaning "hooked snout".
This HOOK is common to all five wild Pacific Salmon species as well as to Rainbow Trout/Steelhead Salmon which are also Salmonids.
However, unlike Sea Salmon, this particular fish can spend its entire life in fresh water, therefore it can live in either fresh or salt water.
{P.S.} Hope you catch fish Thor and not a cold. What's the temperature out there in your area?

We have two kinds over here in MN. Got the wild and the imports from England. Introduced to populated the declining numbers. Only Catch Photo and Release on the wilds but the loopers are lunch meat if you can actually land them. A lot of hook ups, all tho there are those rare occasion when you actually land one. Strong as an ox and the current doesn't help.
They usually start running when the Rivers that pour into Lake Superior breaks open. All I can say is that the weather up there is COLD! Hey, what can you do. A day out fishing is better then none. A two hour drive for me - priceless if you are on the fish that day.
The steelies are still just idling at the mouth of the rivers right now. Them Rivers are still frozen up but should break any day now. Reports are saying that guys and gals are starting to catch their limit of 2 at most of the main Rivers casting out into the big lake. Can't wait for the rivers to thaw out into Lake Superior and the annual Spring run up stream.
Landed a monster Wild last Spring. Too bad I was alone way up stream... a photo of that fish would of been nice. Check out my You Tube avatar. A average Lake Superior Looper!!
Hope the run begins soon as the World Cup is coming up as well. Fishing or Getting the birds ready for the Big Fly. That is a toughie.
Right now out side temp is 35 'F. The weather up North where Lake Superior is usually 10 degrees colder due to the breeze off the monster lake. I can only with for 39 'F temps when the run begins.

Thor, Thanks. I think I've heard of Jim Fisher before, but I wouldn't swear to it. The grizzle in the picture was a '77 out of a Frank Lavin bred cock that had 2564(Pensom) on one side and '73 BCR (Dick Stevens) on the other...That must be where the color and muffs cam from. Paul G
Rather chili springtime we're having here in Okla. We have a strong N. wind today and heavy clouds! Frost warning tonight and freeze warning tommorrow night!
My squeaks that hit that pinning stage are having a rough go at it! I've saved a baby last week and one the week before! They were both singles and hit that stage were the parents get off them in the day and I would find them in the evenings nearly stiff and lifeless! Both occasions I brought them in and held them in front of the heater till their color came back, then wrap them in a towell for the next few hrs! Both seem to be fine, I found other parents that had one baby and they accepted them! One is gonna loose some tips of its toes, but doing fine!I think there feathered out enough now! But I'm ready for the 80s myself!
Other than that round seemed to have a lot of single hatches, I think that I have only lost 1 squeak out of about 30 now! Bops have taken about 6 more!
Rainy season is here now, hope my luck holds out! Got 8" last week! ---------- Val

I'm glad you enjoyed it... Phil's a good guy. Haven't been to his place in a while. Been trying to get Phil down for a visit for ever now. He's a busy man. Got a pure Tidd pair kicking out the goods. Phil has provided me with good stock to work with. It is up to me to do some thing with them. All my original breeders were either from the lofts of Phil or Brian.
