gpigeonman I usally give all my birds some medication before breeding and fly season starts and I breed two rounds then rest them for two months and breed two rounds again and so on untill the season is finished. Most people have their own way of doing things, this is just what I do.

I don't like to medicate unless there is a problem, there is a lot to be said for a dry clean loft that isn't over crowded, throw in clean feed and water into the mix along with basicly a closed loft and WA LA no problems.
I do keep the loft acidic by using apple cider vinegar in the water and an acidic loft dressing when the times of year when there is moister in the air.
I also think that it is critical to stay clear of the antibiotics unless you suspect a major problem loft wise.

Just my Opinion

I agree with Scott,if there is no problem no need to medicate the only thing I would probably do different is worm them once a year.

I have a regular medication for both racers and rollers
I worm twice, around X Mas first wormed then two weeks later, this being to pick up on eggs left behind after first worming, worming is definite must for birds that have access to picking about in garden as mine have.

Next 4 in 1 Product against Paratyhopid,Salmonella,etc
also use a Probiotic for 7 days to replace Good Gut/Bacteria,

When sitting eggs, treat against Wet Canker, again a course of Probiotics,

I also inject against P.M.V. once a year, with youngsters being done at approx 30 days old, having seen this scourge among pigeon, its the last thing a flyer wants,as its a virus, its extremely lethal, and contagious.

Thanks for all the info. I live in Florida and their is a lot of moisture in the air here. I don't know if a loft completely closed would work because of the moisture. If any thinks it would pleas let me know.

thanks again!!!

gpigeonman what part of Florida? I am in Perry and I would not reccomend a closed in loft we get too much rain. All my lofts have three sides open. It is better for you and the birds. I rarely loose any squeaks or eggs to cold. If I do it is usually poor parenting. Did lose a couple last night that were at that inbetween stage. Too big to cover and too little to take twenty degrees. They were parlors though. I dont believe in medicating. I do vaccinate if I am going to bring in any birds though. I had PMV once come in with some new birds and that is bad stuff. I lose very few birds from sickness. I think you invite trouble when you over medicate. I destroy any sick birds if they dont overcome the illness in short order after isolation.
