Hi everybody, I have just been appointed as competition co-ordinator for the next 12 months in our local club.

This entails organising 8 competitions around the year and also falls into the times of the worldcup and nationals.

I would appreciate suggestions on how to establish a point system and roster on when we re flying and keeping to it.

Jim there should be some qualified roller fanciers to help you organize what you want to achieve on this site. Hopefully someone will help with lot of ideas soon. Ill check it out Friday night. F.R.S.

We schedule 4 of the flies in fall and 4 in spring so we dont have to fly in the hot summmer. You can also make the W/C one of your spring flies and same with the fall fly.
We rotate the schedule so it is fair for all to fly in the morning in some point of time. The first guy to fly will fly second then next time and the last guy who flew will fly first. and it revolves that way.
Then its up to you to start at one house and give 20 minutes for the fly and time to regroup and drive time to the next guys house. Say it is a 25 minute drive then put in for arivial time and 20 minutes fly time and time to get to the next house. and so on.
We get judges out of our flying area. SO we all pay $50 each for 8 flies. We pay for the jugdg to have gas money and lucnh. We drive him around. At the end of the year if money is left over we all go have pizza. sound good to you? Bill C

Jim,
I used the highway here to split our region up into 4 even sections. And I rotated the sections every fly so that there would be a different section flying first until each section had its turn flying first on fly day. Then within each section I also rotated the flyers so that way at least everyone had a chance to fly first.
When I say first I mean they get to fly first thing in the morning at the crack of dawn. Some like flying first because the cooler weather stimulates the birds. And once you had your shat at being first you go to the bottom of the list for your section. And then you get to fly in the heat of the day on the next fly. This way it keeps it fair and even for everyone.
Now if someone wants to start flying they have to take the slot at the bottom of the list and work there way up. This way its fair to everyone and this also gives the new guy the chance to work more with his birds and by the time he gets the first slot he has a better grasp on his birds.
But Jim there is more than just being fair when it comes to the flies. You asked about points system. Well the way I did it was pretty easy system. If I had 20 flyers that flew on the average. I would give first place 20 points and second got 19 and so on. If they DQ or didn’t score they wouldn’t get any points at all. This would keep the top scorers from getting so many points that the rest couldn’t catch up. And also kept the points close enough that everyone would want to fly every fly just to keep it tight.
But what these fly’s are really about is the fellowship!!!!! You need to make it fun and exciting so everyone would want to car pool and tag along to enjoy everyone company. Now you need to get a few things going to produce some cash flow in an account. So you won’t have to pull a lot of money out of your own pocket. Because after awhile it’s no fun at all when it’s costing you a couple of hundred dollars for every fly. It is nice if you can have a get together and have a auction or have door prizes for people who buy tickets. Or even have a split the pot where the club gets half the money and the winner gets the other half. And once you build up a nice bank roll you can get judges from different areas to come in and judge for you. When you do this it gets everyone excited because they might want to meet the judge face to face and get to know him. You know when they want to pick his brain for a while and see what he is made of.
These are just a few items that I can think of right now but there is so many more ideas that will make everyone happy and wanting to attend each and every fly.
Hope this helps Brian Middaugh
