Well here we are again already. It seems like just yesterday I was looking up and hoping my young birds would turn out good and now the old bird flys are over. My how time flys when your having fun! Well enough of that and on with the old bird fly. The day started about 7 a.m. at Dean Biedenwegs house. Dean put up his kit about eight and they put on a nice show. His score was 98 points for the day. Second was Billy Matthews and his birds went up and seemed to be flat. Billy did have some real nice 514s rolling about twenty feet and his score was 63 points. Next was Ray Sanchez. When Rays kit went up we all had the pleasure of seeing some fine rollers.Ray not only won the fly for the day, but he also had the best quality for the day. Rays kit scored 112 points. Good fly Ray! I was the last one to fly and my birds flew well and are ready for the races. My kit scored 69 points and I let a new roller man pick a bird from the air and of course, he picked the best cock I raised all year. After the flys were all over we held a pick nick at my house. We had some great food thanks to the women present. There was a lot of roller talk going on and most of it was about the young bird flys yet to come this year. We hope to do more of this in the months to come and try to get some out of town fanciers to join along. Well back to the fly since this was the last of the old series. I will list the final standing. Ray Sanchez was the most consistant flyer with highest average for the five flys and Ken Billings scored the highest points for the five flys. Therefore two awards were awarded for the old bird fly. Billy Matthews placed third, Dean Biedenweg forth, Jay Ventress fifth and Roger Belew and Tim Wyse tied for sixth place. Secretary & Treasurer, Ken Billings.

HI Ray,
Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Those were sure special times. A time when all that mattered was friend ship and flying great birds. You being the old hand at roller flying, were always a threat to kick all our butts!! I still can sees that old kit of all Red bar cock birds. Me and Danny were over just to visit. You flew a kit of all cock that was 2 to 5 years old as I remember you tell me. To this day, that was one of the top 10 deepest fastest kits I have ever seen. Absolutely stunning depth, speed and style. Me and Danny Omelette talked about the quality of that kit and the quality of the roll for days. Man, I sure wish I would have grabbed about 5 of those red bars to found a line on. Oh well hind site is always 20/20.. Not many have that old 183 stuff kept tight these days. Thanks for reminding me of that kit. It's one of the kits I strive to put up one day. KGB

Hey guys. Man was that a trip down memory lane. I was checking out the topic list and I saw CCRC and saw who it was. You are right Ken, that was a special time and I will never forget it. It is really nice to have some one jog your memory. I just talk to Roger Belew other day, I remember when Roger first got into the birds and you sold him the white hens parents. We sure had a good time back then, do you remember the times we drove to So Cal for the classics. How about the trip to Bosie Ray, I didnt know your Lincoln could go that fast. Ken, Ray and I were comming back doing 110 mph on 80 and got passed by two trucks like we were in the slow lane. Its nice looking back
knowing where you have been and looking forward to where your going. Take care, God bless and thanks for the memories. Jay
