what is the percentage of stock birds you get every year
from your mating's.

And I mean birds that are flown out , not birds that are stocked becuase thier kin to good uns or just becuase they look good .

Maybe a couple, maybe....there are times that I do not stock a single bird in addition to what I already have.

Some years one, other years maybe three or for depending on my needs.
As for how many stockable do I breed it is hard to say, as I am a stickler for them being in full blown maturity so that I actually know what it is that I'm stocking.
If I do stock one early (9-12 mo.) is is only for a few rounds and then they go back in the kit to finish prooving out.

right now my stock birds are any were from 3 years old too 9 years old. i may stock one bird evey 2 or 3 years. yes i may breed from some other birds that have proven them selfs in the air. but if a birds can only show it in the air he s just an other good roller theres plenty of them around. if he can,t reproduce its self , it dont belong in the stock loft.

It all depends on the year....and how many birds I actually have in the kit...meaning how many losses did I have. Last year I pulled 4 the year before that 2 the year before that..none...Can't remember beyond that..LOL..This year I am pulling 3 cocks and 2 hens...

I am like Scott...they have to fly themselves out and prove themselves...I give them at least 13 months of wing time...once cock I flew for almost 2 years.

So far all the birds that I have pulled have earned there place in the stock loft.
