Steve, That depends on the persons eyes..I would say over 1000..That is high, even at 1000, to be able to see wing beat

Steve, with my rangefinder I can't get a reading past 500-ish feet. You would be surprised at how low 500 feet really is when you are watching the birds. You naturally use what level of telescopic vision when doing so. I would have to guess that around 1,000 feet is when I can't make out the wing beats anymore, and I have 20/20 vision. It depends too on the atmosphere, if there is a lot of moisture in the air, that threshold will be lower. If it is clear and rather dry, you can see their wingbeats a little higher up. I can usually see them higher on overcast days with my polarized amber glasses versus blue sky days. Brian.

I have driven away from my loft and stopped at each 10th of a mile to observe my birds as they circle over my loft. I don't have the greatest vision but I can just barely see my kit at one half mile. I assume when a kit goes out of sight when they circle up on a clear day that is how high they are. Wayne

Steve, I agree with what Jerry said . I would guess between a 1000 to 1200 feet.
Thanks Dave
