I need help from someone smarter than myself...
I did a system recovery on my computer the other day to fix a few small problems, and ever since, when I hook up my digital camera thru the USB port, it wont read it..Also, now it wont play a disk in the drive..I was gonna reinstall the disk that came with the camera, but the damn disk drive wont work...anyone have a clue? Thanks, Jerry

Calm down Jerry.I'm sure it can be fixed. If you don't have a recovery disc for your computer,my Tecky says you'd be best off taking it to a nerd, geek whatever for repairs.Good luck.

Jerry, I forgot, (oldfart) if your operating system is newer then Windows 98 second edition, then choose, ( last safe point ) or the obvious choice. Above 98 second edition, the system may cure all your woes.

Jerry:

For CD/DVD Player:

1-Goto: Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager

2-Open the DVD/CD Rom Drives>

3-Are they installed properly???

4-Try “Troubleshoot Option” or try removing/uninstalling and then re-install

For USB Ports:

1-Goto: Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager

2-Open the Universal Serial Bus Controllers>

3-Are they installed properly???

4-Try “Troubleshoot Option” or try removing/uninstalling and then re-install

I used to manage and care for a Novell Network and had to keep 30 computers working everyday. This is the first thing I would do, fast and simple.

On the DVD/CD-Rom under device manager, there is a ! inside of a yellow circle. It says LITE-ON LTR-482475.... I have un-installed and re-installed with no success. I have tryed another USB product and it worked, so cant be the USB Port..I cant even get a music CD to play in it..Jerry..

When your computer starts up, it does a system check, to make sure your hardware is working right. If it finds something wrong it will give a double beep. Sounds to me like windows plug and play isn’t recognizing your dvd/cd drive anymore (it might have gone out); you might need a new one bud.

Hey Jerry, sorry I could not get to the meeting, car is showing engine needs service light, didn't want to drive hundreds of miles with that lite on before I know if I just need a tune-up or other work.

When you uninstall the drive, exit out and shut down the computer. At this time, check to make sure the ribbon cable is attached properly and pushed ALL the way in (both motherboard and CD player).

Turn computer back on, it should find the drive and attempt to install it. Let it. If it still does not install properly try getting another ribbon cable before getting a new drive.

If you had the PC open and was messing with it, it could have worked loose or something. If still does not work, buy a new CD player. They are cheap nowadays.
