Hey Guys, I was just wondering if it mattered what color flag you use, to get your Birmingham Rollers to fly higher. Does the color of the flag make a differance?

Makes no difference. I have used both yellow and red. Both colors get them into the air just as quick as you can wave that thing. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

I tied an old yellow shirt to the end of the pole. It has worked great for me. I also lay it on top of the kit box for twenty minutes to try and keep the early landing birds from landing. If they see it on the kit box, they know they will be flagged back up. Chad

Eight foot long PVC pipe and a black plastic bag as a flag, scares the crap of them, and anyone who isn't ready for it. Bonus--Super cheap.

Thanks Guys, I have been using an old white plastic feed sack, glued to the end of a 8 foot 1X2. I thought about changing to red if that would work better (guess not)so thanks again. YITS....Robby

10 foot x 1 inch galvanized pole. I stick a feed sack on it,hold it really high over my head and rattle the pole back and forth in the sack "popping" it on the sides of the bag. Works pretty well. As the season drags on one should have to use the pole less and less. If I have to use it in the winter someone is probably gonna lose his head.
If you have to use it pretty often you might rethink your training methods.

I now use pvc pipe poles wich attach to each other as tall as the telephone pole,in case they decide to land there. The 1st attachement has the red flag on it.Pretty funny sight seeing me wave that freaking huge thing to keep my birds from landing on the poles or wires!!

Am I missing something. After three or four flights the YB's come out of the kit box flying,no flag needed.Old birds never need flagging. ---------- Ron

Luis,
Could you please describe the method you use to attach the PVC poles together to get a longer pole? Not for me of course, my pole is fine. I have a friend who would like a longer pole. Thanks!

I have a flag from Tony that I use to kick the stubborn ones out of the kit box andI have a light weight telescoping fishing pole that extends to 16 feet. I bought it at Cabellas for about 13 dollars. I tape a small part of a black plastic bag to the end and it works great to chase any birds off the loft or to keep young birds from landing if I want to keep them up for a while longer. I have to be careful to avoid hitting low flying airplanes. Wayne
