On a more humane note. I purchased a live trap. They work great. Then the is no chances of having a wounded animal wandering off or screaming its butt off.

I appreciate the suggestions guys. None of the three birds have returned as of this morning. The other 7 look like they're in shock - don't have the usual energy and excitedness they've had the last few days, like they miss their buddies. I'm a little surprised that when they first got scared up, they didn't land somewhere quicker having never been in the air. I'm also a little surprised at the difference in homing ability between my rollers and the homers I raised as a kid. I mean, I know the homing ability is no where near as strong but they are pigeons for crying out loud. You would think homing would be an inherent instinct at a decent level, even if it's not as strong as that of homing pigeons.

Ah I'm just pissin and moanin. . . I'm still mad about losing those birds.

I had one bird come back today so now I'm only missing 2 out of 10. He flew over the house earlier in the day and my son came running in and told me. I went outside and he flew over the back yard again and then made a big loop and I saw him way off in the distance heading away and I figured he just wasn't going to be able to find home. 4 hours later he showed up, hungry and thirsty but otherwise just fine. It would be nice to have the other two come back - maybe they'll make it. I gotta believe they spend their day flying around trying to find something familiar, find home.

CJ--your right-I am running some of the posts together! I get your point and its valid.I guess the dumping thing got me alittle irritated. And the "humane" thing doesnt seem humane to me if I have to kill it for someone else. thats why I suggested the conibear trap-- there would be no wounded cats no suffering with a bad shot- instant kill-It seperates the vertebrae instantly.the laws are much different here.And--no I wouldnt want to kill a little girls pet cat--I would go speak to her parents first--If that didnt solve the problem then I would---well you know LOL! Thanks CJ for your point of view!
