Being new to the hobby of keeping rollers i have been trying to read up as much as i can on keeping my pigeons healthy .However i see there are rather alot of products for pigeons (ie) vitamins, treatments to prevent illness.I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this matter over an average calender month or year as to what to give my birds? .May i also say the website has been a wealth of knowledge.many thanks chris 100(england)

Chris, being a fellow Englander, I'll say just a few words, as I'm actually just taking a break from a James Bond film. If you read past posts, you will read lots about medication, both as a preventative measure and for when problems arise. Personally, I've only been in the game a year and have give nothing but food and clean water - oh, and I clean the crap out regularly. However, you will certainly hear lots of different opinions on this one.

Kit birds (fly rollers) really do not need vitamins/supplements on daily basis. Once a month should be OK.
You may want to give breeders vitamins/supplements.
All rollers need is good clean feed (good mix - different grains) and clean water. They will stay healthy and happy on it. This is just my opinion. There are many fanciers do thing differently but mine fly, roll, breed just fine on feed, grit and clean water. Thanks, -Rauf

Welcome to the site Chris. I am sure you will have a lot of fun corresponding with the many good members in this forum.
Really pigeons are hardy and as long as you keep the loft clean, ventilated and plenty of sun, your rollers will be healthy for a long time to come. Always make sure that your loft is rodents and pest proof.
On occasions we give rollers some vitamins and minerals to supplement their grains. A good product to use is Red Cell and it is fairly cheap. Maybe once a week or once every two weeks is plenty. First off, you need to make sure that your birds are worm free. There are so many good products on the market that are all good. Make sure that you give baths once a week. Occasionally check your birds for lice and mites and if they exist, you can dust them with seven dust or other water based spray products you can find in the market.
There are many products and all are good. I prefer not to give an exact product name due to people preferences vary. But if you require names for most used product, just post what is it you are looking for to treat and someone will be more that happy to tell you what they use and found useful.

Chris, I should mention that what the guys in the US can get hold of, we can't in England - at least, without a prescription; and that means a trip to the vet. Take a look on any English pigeon website and see how little there is on offer. I'm always interested in all the gear they talk about here - you'll read all sorts of trade names - but, we simply can't get it in England.
