Mike, first thing that comes to mind is some common sense things like, a high quality particle dust mask, when you do cleaning operations, first and foremost, also, use a coverall or loft coat so that dander particulates stay off your clothing, and be overzealous about washing your hands with a good anti-bacterial handsoap. When your dealing with the droppings, give a spray over the area to be cleaned with a water mist to keep the lighter dust from proliferating back up into the loft and on you.Dedicate a hat to the cause of cleanup day that can be cleaned easily with a few shakes.Don't let the droppings pile up for 6 months,I recently made a comment to a fancier with a very nice setup if he was trying to create art with droppings, duplicating our scenic Koolau mountain range directly under his perches,a contrast to his set-up,I'm glad he had a sense of humor about itLOL.
Mike, this years moult was the worst I've ever had, alot of feathers and dander from youngsters as well, without proper loft design and some screened off areas the amount of feathers and cleanup would have been overwelming, and as far as I'm concerned I'll not go through it again next year, which means a reduction of stock, takes to much time away from the enjoyment of performance pigeons.
The thrust of what I've mentioned has come from being diagnosed with pnuemonia in June, which took me 3 weeks to fight off.Of course this is something my wife and also my mother chiming in,could sink their teeth into LOL.GET RID OF THOSE DAMN BIRDS,I felt the breeze go through my ears LOL.
But seriously keep the numbers low, very low and the quality high, get rid of the fosters and the keepsakes, the may be birds. If you had to up and move and take only the very best and scrap the rest, should be a realistic concept you emply 2 to 3 times a year, help some body new get started with some good ones, just enjoy the birds.Aloha,Todd
