Jerry, If your birds are setting in the tree, they are not hungry enough. Cut back on their feed until they start acting like they want to be home. :)

Take care

I am no expert Jerry but, I would find some way to scare the heck out of them, to get them up. Then do what Thom said and keep them so hungry they wont stop in the tree very long. Tree sitting is a bad habit and you must find a way to break them of it now.

Godd luck bro.

James.

Jerry, James pretty much nailed it. I never let mine sit for even two seconds anywhere but on the kit box. Any that do are in for a short ride. I don't know how many birds you are flying but I would start with three or four. Release them and make sure they have no peace in that tree. When those four are flying and doing alright, then add one or two more. Any that will not fly, "B" team! :) Keep adding birds until you have weeded out the tree sitters. If you want them in the air, then make them fly, it's just that simple. I would not cull any that tree sit at this point but would demote them to the "B" team. Once you have a core group flying that do not stop in the tree, add one each time out from the "B" team. If it tree sits, then the stew pot. keep adding from the "B" team until all are flying or soup.

Take care
Thom

Jerry,
Last year i had the same problem with my young birds landing in my neighbors 60'pine tree, I climbed the tree and tied a garbage bag at the end of a branch about 10' from the top, I then tied a thin Nylon rope to that branch and threw the roll done, every time the attempted to land on that tree i pill the rope which then swung the branch and bag, after a couple of times they stayed far away from that tree.
Give it a try, Hope it helps

Ps. This year I cut her tree down LOL

Jerry im in the same boat as you. I am having problems getting my 17 young birds to fly. At first when I was letting them out they would just hit the tree and sit there for hours and hours. The birds are improving slowly but its a challenge. Now when I open their kitbox they actually take off and fly...but only for 10-15 mins then they hit the tree.

I have cut down the feed so they only hit the tree then fly down branch to branch and trap within a few minutes. But I would like to get more air time out of them. Too little feed they dont want to fly and too much feed they fly for a little bit then sit in the tree for hours. Im trying to figure out the exact amount of feed they need but it is tough!

How long are your birds sitting in the trees for?? If its for awhile you are deff over feeding them. Have you tried taking them down a few blocks and tossing them??

cutting down the tree is not an option and its a big tree throwing things to the top is impossible and that what they start doing when i started scaring them out of the tree they keep going higher and higher

get a super soaker water gun, that has a long range and shoot the little buggers, or a slingshot for tennis balls, and again shoot them. The sling shot can be found at pet stores. they are great if you have a retriever.
Have fun.

jnyce....If you starve the little XXxxXX take them one or two blocks away let them fly back from there, and by starving them,I mean when you walk out to the loft they are on the floor wings and tail out and trying to get to you.No feed just there water for 24 hrs. That should bring them straight to the loft and you be there shaking the feed can. When they all trap in feed them small amounts little at a time, till they have had a half ration. The next day do the same thing, this time give them a full ration.Don,t worry about time in the air till you get them out of this bad habit.

If that don,t work, (Cull)JDA

Johnnie, I think that is covered in Tony's book. It is management! LOL Last years problem is manageable this year, you learned, plain and simple.

Take care
Thom
