I will trade 1 pair of young bird Ruby Rollers for "wood" feeders that will fit into the Crown pen middle section.

The feeder must be nearly 100% spill-proof. My birds are wasting too much feed. If you know how to work with wood and can make a quality product, I want to talk to you. Call me at 1-417-935-4751.

Tony, Think O.J. 96 ounce size with a 1 1/2 inch hole just at the bar level on both sides. It cuts the waste almost to nothing. To remove the label, fill the container with very hot tap water and let sit for ten minutes. Then just peal the label off. Any residue can be removed with a little Goo Gone or the like.

Thom, I have been using the 96 oz orange juice container for feeders for several years and still have a lot of waste when feeding grain. When I went to the Purina Pigeon Chow Checkers pellets, the wastage went way down.

Hey Thom, I see what you mean, they look real nice. Okay, OJ containers is it. Thanks for the pictures as they convinced me that this is a good way to do it.

Does somebody have a couple dozen they want to trade!?

Hey Joe, I feed checkers myself and there is some waste but nothing like before! :)

Tony, You can drink the O.J. :) The trick, if there is one, cut the holes with a 1 1/2" hole saw. Any bigger and the waste goes up. Also notice the standard cup (grit) in the back which assures a perfect lineup with the hole to bars.

Okay Thom, I do drink OJ. I will start using them first on the pairs that waste too much. Thanks Thom!

Hey Tony im not sure what kind of feeder you are currently using but what I found works relatively well for cup feeders in my breeding cages is cardboard covers!

All you gotta do is get a piece of cardboard flip the cup over and trace it around the edge then cut the cover out. Then tape it down to the cup and then ontop of the cardboard make a hole big enough for the birds head to fit.

By doing this I have cut down the feed waste to 90%. This is a quick easy fix but might not be as good as the OJ gallon LOL. I will post a pic shortly to show what I mean.

Hopefully some of you guys out there that are having a hardtime with your breeders making a mess can try this. It's cheap and easy :D

Hey Tony, Have you tried any of the O.J. feeders yet? If so, how do you like them and are they saving feed?

Take care my friend

Tony...I use the same thing as Thom. Any type of plastic containers will do. NO "spillage" of food. I also use them for water too.

Hey Thom, I have Joni setup to buy this type of OJ container when she buys it. In the meantime, I am using used plastic coffee containers. Paul, you are right, two wasteful pairs have barely wasted any in the week they have been using it. Nice to save the money! Thanks for the help guys.

Hey Tony, I'm glad it's working for you. Paul is right it really does not matter what container as long as the principle is the same. I only picked the 96 ounce O.J. jug because it exactly fit the Crown Cage. I still get a little waste but nothing like before.

Take care my friend

I have built wooden I beam feeders with a band around the bottom and about 1 1/2 inches for the birds to stick thier head in to gain access to the feed. The key to keeping the seed in the feeder is just enough room for their head and deep enough to contain the seed when they pick thru it. A 42 inch dual side feeder will feed 22 birds at a time.

This is the feeder I have been using for 3 years now. You can see the opening is less than 2 inches. I think it is 1 3/4. Its 42 inches long and will feed 22 birds.

This is the prototype. It wasnt quite long enough and is a little wider than I liked. I use it for short kits and with the other feeder when I gang fly a bunch of birds at once.

These 2 are just regular milk jugs. I use 1 food jug for each side instead of sharing 1 jug.
