This Bird was bred by Danny Horner and is 5 months old and is spinning 5ft to 30 ft twice a minute , it shows no wing and shrinks as the roll gets deeper.

It is the best white Pigeon I have ever seen with my eyes.
I will keep flying it to see if it hold's up.

Danny told me that Ty Coleman seen this Birds Mother(red grizzle, mostly white ) fly in his kit when he visited Dannys Loft.

George, I bred a few similar to this one from Dannys birds as well. Mine are mostly white with some traces of red in them.
Currently I have 20 I am just starting to home and train. Hopefully they have the goods, as I will fly them for at least 1 year hopefully longer to see if they hold up that long.

Thats a nice looking bird you got there and goodluck with it. For me the white birds are the first to get snatched up or go missing.

I got this bird out in Ca. I was told it goes back to Mason but it looks very similar to your bird. I grabbed this bird as it was the fastest pigeon I've ever seen.

hey Pogo, its funny, there are many who would say that bird is no good just because its a torteishell. i have a nice tort that is just under a year, and she rips em up real nice. i never know what to believe anymore when others say a certain color is no good or a certain pattern.

Definately not the best looking bird for sure. It is fun to have a working young bird to watch. I would bet this type of bird will not be one of the best you will run acrossed. The bird will break down over time and cause you problems in the end is my bet. Good luck in the mean time... just my opinion.

The whites that I have from Danny and/or I bred from Danny’s stock never disappointed me. And never lost any white rollers to hawks. I believe this one will hold it's weight in gold. Good luck with it George.

I thought whites are easily picked off by BOPs as people say but the whites that I have are alert, fast and maneuverable when chased.

"Who and why would someone say that Steve ?"

Scott, i don't remember who actually said that about torts, but i do remmember reading online more than once about certain patterns, and particularly tort or gulp!, yellows. ;=) its anybodies guess as to why anyone might say a certain color is not good, but you certainly lead the pack regarding that subject, don't you agree?

Steve .. When we are talking yellows we are talking Rec. Yellows as that is what every one is after for their beauty..it is a fact that good yellows are as rare as hens teeth .. they tend to run weak .. there are exceptions...this does not seem to hold true with Torts.
Steve when we say "good" we are talking about a bird worth remembering as far as quality and with the mental strength to hold it.

"Steve when we say "good" we are talking about a bird worth remembering as far as quality and with the mental strength to hold it."

that statement we can definetely agree on. and over the last year, i've learned a great deal from the online forums, and i appreciate your take on quality, and where it might lead the roller in the future. i didn't even realize in the beginning that we all have a huge stake in this breeds future. when i watch my own birds i now look at them a lot differently than i did last year when i got them as babies. the best thing i ever did was to accompany Eldon Cheney when he judged our region(1B), learning so much as i jotted down the flyers' points. seeing all the NY State flyers put their birds up was extremely educational, and gave me a deeper understanding of what i need to do. its always interesting discussing all the fine points of rollers on this and other sites. hopefully, we can all take more away from this place than we put in.

Steve I have seen some exceptional torts over the years. I bred some good ones when I was breeding Chan Grover birds back in the 80's. They can and do roll as well as any other bird. Oh and by the way a tort is no where near a rare colored bird. All you have to have is grizzle in your birds and you could very easily get a tort with any mating. Good luck with the birds and hope to see you on the leader board in the future. Joe

richard,
I agree with your assessement of the type in this bird. This one is not my cup of tea either.

Scott
Just Rec. Yellows? Then the ash red yellows must be a better class yellow. The mental weakness must not be associated with the dilute gene, but primarily in the dilute of recessive red, since the dilute of blue and ash red seem to hold up better. (Not all dilutes are yellow; silver or dun being the dilute of blue.)
Some breeders know how to use a weakness as a strength. Strength to strength can be a double edge sword and if the birds become too strong, knowing how to add weakness can be another tool used by breeders.
If infrequency starts to become a problem a good dilute spinner or spinner carrying dilute may be used to bring back the frequency. It many be just an old wives tale, but I think I would try that before going to rubber snakes, balloons, voodoo, or chemical performance enhancing drugs. Remember.....a cock can be blue or red and carry the dilute gene.

bigbull- Thanks! Bobby Wilson helped me pick that hen out. Scott Lauffer flew her in one of the two auction kits he put together for the BRU Lawn Show. I couldn't believe the speed on this hen, maybe not quite the best for control but she's got speed and style. Bobby had me put her with a nice blue check cock I bought from Steve Russel. The cock bird has great control and style so I hope I get something good out of them. I already got two youngsters off of her. One is like red grizzle and the other blue check white flight. We'll see how they do.

Hey Winwardrollers, thats my top cock in the kit,i havnt stocked it yet but im planning on doing it very soon,as for colour, out of 14 birds bred from my main stock pair they look alike but if you refering to the oddwing,i have only bred 2,the 1 you see in the pic,and another that i lost, both of them had blue bar on the other side, the mother is mason, the father is deano Forster, nephew of the 2006 uk national champ old bird.

Yes it is the odd wing I am referring to, I understand now that your birds are not mainly odd wing. Beautiful bird but he looks a bit bulky. He is a real eye catcher. Bwinward

I must agree with you on that winward,he is bulky, gives 1 heck of a roll though,he is my deepest at the moment, stable and still manages to stick with the kit,im happy with his performace,i have been told many times to put him back to his mother,i havnt bred mother to son yet so im still deciding on what to do,the only really good hen i have at the moment is his mother.
