Leo,
It was 68 because a younger brother wrote me in the army in Vietnam and said he died.
I met Bill twice and aquired birds in 64 and 66.
Last I saw him was in Illinois at a meet.
The term Master maybe would fit in his ability to pick birds to mate and choose the best by conformation and type.
Him and a few others that introduced them to America I would call leaders in the hobby but Master overall I would question.
He told me a good bird would spin about 18 -20 feet, he used the term yards.
There are men that have taken that alot further and excelled in breeding and compiled records of being able to reproduce spinners of high quality.
I would call those men masters of the hobby.
Bill Pensom would surely be called a Leader and also be termed as "One" of the masters of the sport.

Steve,
You are probably right, the only thing I remember about 1968 was some little gomer wearing a pith helmet and Ho Chi Minh sandals was trying to bend my dog tags every flipping day!!

Steve...So he said to you 6 to 7 yards? Bill Patrick used the term yards also. His birds were all straight Pensom birds. JDA

Steve, you may be correct in your findings, but i am at a loss as to who these fanciers could be that compile records of what??? and are masters ??I think the problem here is compitition flyers are answering non comp fanciers, questions and all of a sudden there is a difference on the horizion,Pensom has been called an assortment of names down through the yrs,The post was only out of respect,I didnt want a moment of silence,I just wanted varification of the date..!
