We want to thank Spanky C.from San Gabriel Valley Spinners for judging our fly. Spanky does a good job of scoring only birds that are rolling to the standard and rolling together. We also want to thank our WC RD George Ruiz for putting the fly together. Very tough Winter and Spring for us here in this area with the worst BOP season ever and our normal windy Spring to deal with. Stormed the whole week before the fly and when it was good enough to be able to fly the falcons did their damage. The Roller Gods blessed us on fly day as not a single falcon attack. I was very lucky and fortunate to nip both George's teams out by less then 3 points, as well Marlon having bad luck with an extra bird joining his team right after release and never left, so he lost a point per break or could have won the fly. My son's team also was only a big break or a few small ones from winning. Lots of good spin seen and very competitive fly. WIllie Sims had some good spinners but out birds hurt. Marvin Gibson and Q Coleman were first time fliers and it was good to see them participate and support our group. My excitement of being fortunate to qualify was short lived as on Sunday I put the best of my cocks and hens together to fly. They came out smokin and broke big for about 10 minutes before the falcon hit them. They went up and the falcon circled under them and kept driving them up. Bad updraft day as temp. went from 50 to 80 in 3 hours. Ended up losing 5 birds and with high winds today the chances of them making it home are slim to none, but I always keep my hopes up! We all have to deal with Mother Nature in some way I look forward to flying in the finals against the other qualifiers and hope to be able to put up a respectable team to represent our region. Top 5 kits listed below. Enjoy your next fly! Don M. Mac's Rollers

Don Macauley Kit1 17 98.02
5,7,5,5,7,7,7,5,5,5 1.3Q X 1.3D All cock kit that did respectable but drifted south and then went a little too high for part of the fly as they worked their way back over home.

George Ruiz Kit1 19 95.16
5,6,9,5,8,6,5,6,5,6 1.3Q X 1.2D Good team that flew a nice speed and pattern. A Seagull flew by and spooked them and took them a little to settle down. Several real nice spinners in this group.

George Ruiz Kit2 18 95.16
8,10,6,5,5,7,5,5 1.3Q X 1.2D Another nice team that flew a little fast at times but had some good breaks. Several real nice spinners in this group as well. Both George's teams scored exactly the same points.

Richard Macauley Kit1 19 84.50 6,7,7,5,7,10 1.3Q X 1.25D With work and fulltime college my son doesn't get much time with the birds and Dad cherry picked from his teams but this team mixed with old and young birds kitted well and scored well for about 7 minutes, then went flat as they got pulled up by the warm air and worked their way back down with a 10 bird break before time.

Marlon Garnett 17 82.87 9,5,5,7,5,7,6,7 1.3Q X 1.25D Bad luck for Marlon as a extra bird joined his kit shortly after release and stayed with them the whole time so he lost a point a break. Several very nice spinners and Marlon continues to fly good birds with no junk. Bad BOP season for Marlon and bad luck on fly day.

I would like to congratulate Don on his win. We had similar inclement weather here too.
Another thing I would like to point out is that Dex is doing an outstanding job of getting the scores posted almost instantly after recieving them. He hit me up for some pics via email before I even knew the scores had been posted. I sent a few in and they were posted by the time I let a kit out and fed my breeders.

Thanks Michael. Looks like I fly either May 19th or 20th. Not sure until we get the plane schedule for arrival and departure of the judge. Hope we have the judge for a good portion of the day because we would like him to see George, Marlon, Willie, and maybe a few more kits as some nice birds in each group.

I was not aware I lost a point a break I didnt see that on my score card the extra bird was not my bird it was a common pigeon the rules say

6) Extra birds. If additional Rollers join the kit, a simple discount for the extra birds shall be made for each turn involved. For example, if 2 extra indistinguishable birds are in the kit and 7 roll together, the judge would record 5.

But it is what it is if my bird would have done there job they would have been in the finals good luck Don and thank you to everyone who participated in the joyous event and thankyou Spanky for taking the time to visit with us
Keep em Spinnin

Just want to clarify. The bird that joined the kit was seen flipping and stayed with the kit the whole fly. Therfore it was determined to be a roller that joined the kit and the judge announced that, by rule, a point per scorable break will be deducted. Several of our flies here have been so close and competitive that luck has been the determining factor. Bird joining Marlon's kit, George less then 3 points from qualifying in which just 1 extra bird scored on a break on either of his kits or 1 less bird scored on a break on my qualifying kit could possibly have changed the outcome. I was very fortunate to be our qualifier. I owe alot of that to Marlon and George. I always consider Marlon the man to beat and George is very competitive and I credit George for revitilizing our region this past several years. Enjoy your next fly! Don M Macs Rollers
