I know this topic has made several rounds but I have never been faced with this issue. What are some of your thoughts to kit birds coming down eith blood in the eye?
Do you cull these out right away?
Do you lock them down for a while before flying them again?
Do you have problems later on with these birds?
Do you ever breed from one?
Etc.

Thanks,
Jason

in my birds it happens here and there. Well i think its a trait in the birds because my foundation cocks sister did it once when she was about 4 months even though my foundation cock never did his offspring and there offspring have. In my case i will lock them up for a week or so and it never happens again. I choose to never bred from birds that have rolled blood in there eyes period and the trait isn't seen as much

Blood in the eye is a defect and I would avoid stocking any of them.

Some say: 1) too much speed 2) bumped with another bird while spinning 3) its a bad gene , defect and should cull the bird. Now theres 3 options to choose from, its upto you which one you want to believe in.

I have three birds do this. All out of the same cockbird. I culled the cock & his offspring. Never had any more problems.

Blood in the eyes is not caused by a high velocity spin. It is caused by a weakness in the bird's genetic make up.

Or hitting another bird in the spin, I had one 2 years ago and rested her and it never happened again, none of her offspring have it either, JMO

I have seen a bird roll on top of another bird coming out of the roll. The top bird killed the bottom bird instantly. The dead roller fell to the ground like a rock, you could tell that it was lifeless the moment they collided in air.
A bird with blood in the eye, I just can't count on.

B winward,

I had the same thing happen on a WC finals. I had two birds collide in mid air. I did not see it but Joe Urbon did...He said..Holy shit those birds just hit hard...neadless to say...they both came down..one was hurt pretty bad...he came in later in the evening and sat in the bottom of the kit box....the other bird had a jacked up eye and is still jacked up to date.....what made me the most upset..is that they DQ with about 115 raw in 9 minutes......anyway...birds CAN hit in the air...

Many of times have I seen rollers in flight hit wing to wing, and feathers fly.
I have never had good luck with recovery from blood in the eye. I have a two year old hen right now that has blood in her right eye only, she will not ever fly in the kit again. I am guessing that her problem is genetic by looking at her eye rather than an accident in flight. I think most blood in the eye is genetic for the most part.
Back to the original post..where Jason has not had this issue in his birds..it may just be an accident. Jason has breed alot of birds and should have come acrossed this problem before now if it was genetic, but who know how the stars line up over time.

Brad, I see birds come in contact with each other just like you describe. Sometime two spinning birds want the same piece of sky.
