I have the original Ollie Harris stock that Mr. Pensom imported before his death. The new Ollie Harris stock is being bred too. They are different colors than the old imports. I have alot more of the old stock than the newer stock going back to Ollie Harris. Bill claimed everything he bred in the USA was the same stock he bred in England. Both Ollie and Bill must have bred the same stock in England before Bill moved to the states. All breeders that own this stock are very fortunate indeed. This family will definely fly higher with less food and longer. It reminds me of a person that is high strung and keeps pushing himself. If all the birds are perfoming with some good depth they only have to be released three times per week. Carb up with a full can the day they are flown and carb down the next two days with half the amount that is fed the day they are flown. If the birds are out of conditition then they definely have to be flown more. I have all the families that the Monty Niebel birds were bred from. That family is very well bred and has great stock behind them. A breeder has to have a goal in mind when it comes to breeding any great family of pigeons. I keep a close watch on the lenght of the feathers on my family of feather footed rollers. If they are to long like a West of England it makes them look like they are not pure bred rollers.Best Regards Ray Sanchez

Val the distance between Robert Rusher and me is less than twenty miles. Robert is learning much faster about the breed than your everyday roller fancier. Then the stock he has aquired from me and Ken Billings makes it much rasier to succeed. If you had two Master Breeders to learn from and other knowledgeble breeders it helps mucho. Bill Roy is another local roller breeder that is breeding and flying my stock with great succees. Then there are several other roller breeders in Missouri that breed and fly my stock that check out this site They dont post but we talk over the phone. There are other roller fanciers throughout the USA that have my stock but they arent interested in NBRC and WC political problems. Therefore the competition Birmingham roller breed isnt represented satisfactory. A new all-breed club has been organized called M.O.K.A. and the meetings are held near my farmette. This could bring new and old roller fanciers together in the near future. A show is being held in September but a better time would be after the molt is over with. Gary Severe was a secretary for the NBRC and he will be present at the meeting this month. There is a good chance Gary will start breeding and flying rollers again. Gary was born in southern California and was a good friend of Bill Penson so has lot of experiance in the breed. Thank you for your interest in the roller breed Val.

Hey 155,
I have a question, so far I have counted three diferrent families of rollers you have. Higgins, Mason, and now, Ollie Harris. My question is, why not take the (best) from those three, and inter-breed them, and create ( your own ) family of rollers? There was this one guy who seems to be everyones IDOL in the states. He went around the English country side and picked up good birds from different people. Then he bred those birds together and created his own family, I think his name was Bill Pensom. In my opinion what most people miss is, they were Pensom rollers (only as long as Pensom was the one breeding them) With all the garbage rollers in the world, how fair is it to him to call them Pensom rollers, when he had no control over how they were being bred? Why not take the credit for creating your own family? Pure Pensom Rollers? Unless they are birds bred (directly by him) there is NO SUCH THING. I am sure I have stepped on some toes, all I can say is, wear steel toe boots.

To answer your question, I am trying to make my own English stuff out of Al Luna Masons, Ellis Mcdonald Masons and out of a Ollie Harris pair. Thats the plan I have is to make my own out of this 3 family's. My plan is to make my own but right now I am sorting out the bad from the good. Keeping the best and getting rid of the rest. I am just real picky and selective of what I breed out of and down the road I may cross the Higgins with one of the English stuff but right now I dont see and feel that I need to cross the English with the Higgins. The Higgins are working just fine for me and are a little bit easier to my fit and on the English side there a little more high matnience witch I am going to work on making them on how I want them.
