Hi all,
Just wanted to show some photos of my new loft and kit box. Loft is 10x12 with a 4' aviary extension on one side. Kit box is approximately 3x3x4. I got a lot of great advice here about flying mobile. I appreciate everyone's willingness to help out! In the end I decided that being a total beginner, it would be best to start stationary. Next year I may get more adventurous and go mobile!

I am picking up the first 4 of my new birds later this week. Wish me luck!
~Karen

Thanks Evillofts!
I will have to get some better photos inside the loft. It has a small section for my feed & supplies, and the rest is open, with nest boxes on one wall and flat wooden perches on the other wall. 2 good size windows, roof & floor vents, plus the aviary door should keep air circulating nicely.

Very sharp set up. If you have no BOP problems stationary is the way to go.

Hi all!
Thanx for your kind words.
I don't have a tray for the droppings yet, but plan to install one.

Sippi - I hope I don't have BOP issues. Have not flown from my yard yet. Keeping fingers crossed!

I will start flying once my new birds get settled in. Probably on the weekend...wish me luck!!!

Karen,

You got some good things going on. I also like the fact that you built the facilities first before you brought in the birds. That take patience that few of us have.

Looking good.

P.S. I like the little flower box; good touch.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and wishes of luck - I will need it! I'm sure I'll be back with questions. Getting the first 4 of 10 birds this week.

As for cost...well it cost a lot because I had to hire someone to do all the work. Plus I had electricity put in the loft which added a lot to the cost as well. Wish I could've done it myself but I am just not that handy.

Really nice !!!! that ventillation door is sweet. cool idea. that took some doing. You must have a good carpenter.

The loft is converted from a Home Depot shed. Windows, extra door, aviary, vents and all of the inside setup (man trap, perches, nest boxes, hardware cloth over windows, etc...) were added to the original structure. (I put up the window boxes myself - which is the extent of my handiness.)

The kit box was built from scratch. I showed my friend lots of photos from this site, some plans from roller sites, etc... The vent door was his own creation though - very cool idea.

If anyone in the greater Boston area wants a good carpenter, drop me a line...I can give you contacts :)

You are lucky to have a good carpenter. I`m just amazed at the vent. It sounds like you`ve done your homework. you should have no problem getting a good kit of birds in the air. Keep us posted on the progress.
