I first started working on thease birds in 97, really hard in 98. I recieved thease birds from Rex Clark of Orland Ca. From Rex i was able to talk to Rick Schoening, Rex got the originals from him. Rick gave me the history on thease birds ,, They go back to Ole Harris and Barry Schackleton. I have not crossed thease birds and I am really happy with the family I have developed off 2pair and one hen. I still have two of the original hens banded "AERS". Rex was a really good friend and there isnt a day spent with my rollers I dont think of and thank him with "eyes Skyward" as the man himself would say. Here are some pics of my "Old English" family.

Recently Rick has been using some Les Bezance blood as well as his old English stock which includes blood from Harris, Blaas, Huntington and others. He has had the family for a long time and is a master at breeding and flying it. He knows it very well and knows what to add or delete and when.

The birds are very active and roll smooth and clean. They are a medium depth and above average speed but not smoking fast. They're very good team workers, kit like grapes and break together. They arent a family for beginners though as they seem to need strict management and work their best in a fine window of condition. When they are on, there are few better.

Hoping that the birds will like Hawaii.

Great breakdown thor.rell liked all the info. some of my originals were really big, and long cast they are still pretti long. but after talking to Rick a few years he told me not to worry bout that as the birds roll well, as i have seen really smooth. You mentioned grizzle on that side and one or my originals was a red grizzle hen and most of them are really deep off her. I pretti much have every color except the red bald heads. i kinda got away from the in my program as alot of them were bigger color had nothing to o with it, however i as able to stoca a really noce 06 red badge cock, that goes bact to the red grizzle hen. here is a pic of on of the last birds Rex Clark sent to me in 05 a blue grizzle cock, and the red grizzle hen i got from his house in 99 and her grandson..

No problem on the info. I just thought some of you guys might enjoy reading it or re reading it again. I found it while searching for some photos for Ray. I filed away some of Rick's foundation photos some where as well but I think Tony is tired of seeing photos. Good luck with the birds...

Thor

P.S. Dexter... that looks like them Hiene birds. Heard Rick picked up some. If so, man you are one lucky SOB for having Rick for a neighbor :)

Square,

Just sent you a couple. I know I have more, just have to dig deeper. I recall saving his foundation current and past photos some where. When I have some free time, I'll look for them.

Thor

P.S. Dexter, I figured so because that bird resembles a lot like the Ron Judd (I think) birds he imported from Mr. Hiene. Looks good, the best of luck to you with the loaners...

< When I read that the bird in question was a black grizzle and bred in 1993, I rushed out to the loft to check. Sure enough that hen, 553 is a full sister to my very best stock hen ever!! They had another sister that I gave to Bob Baxter of Pa. He filled his loft with her progeny. She linebred very well for him. His bird is 77( a homer band) and mine is 524. Their father just died Monday. He was a 1989 bird. My friend Bob Lockett of Rockford Illinois bred him out of two birds I sent him. They are pure Barry Shackelton's birds that I imported from John Huntington in 1987. Bob is going to write an article for the NBRC about him. He was 663-89-NBRC
I flew 524 out for 2 solid seasons. She was an outstanding 30 foot spinner with the stuff that make the Shacks noted for. The dead stop at the end of the roll and right back to the kit. Everything that is grizzle in my loft is from this stuff. 553's great grandfather was raised by Bill Barratt out of his Jim Skidmore line. He was an aerial champion and a champion in the breeding loft. Barry Shackeltons family is based around this cock. 553's mother was also down from that cockbird of Barratt's. Gary Tollett of Texas had her father. I shipped him to him after I was full of the gene pool.
I find it fascinating that these three sisters have proved to be great stock birds. I have line bred my 524 for many generations. I wish I had recognized it sooner. This past year I put her on a pure Les Basance bird and stocked three. Two cocks and one hen. I posted the cock birds a week ago. A tort and a black grizzle. Les Basance's birds are all from Barry Shackelton and Graham Dexter.

Aloha Thor,
Couple of those birds do look like what Rick brought over but, no they're not in those pics. The Bijker birds that Rick brought here were all bred by him last year. I believe Rich Hayes now has the original imports.

Nice setup. Do you know how he gets access to clean under the floor wire? Does it lift up? I don't see a tray that pulls out. Thanks for sharing.
