Hi John and all,

I see over on the American board that some of the chaps brought up the number 45 of John's as a prepotent bird that had left it's mark on the hobby, not just in the UK but also in SA.

John could you tell me a bit about this birds background and how it's been used, etc?

Trying to learn all I can before I get over there so I can ask intelligent questions and not come off as a novice "Yank". LOL

thanks,

Ken,
When are you due over in England?

I have a lot of off spring of 45 in my loft and are flying the best pigeons I have ever flown in the past 32years.Thanks
JOHN.
I have a cock directly off 45, 316-2000 this cock has produced obove avaredge youngsters mated to 5 different hens, its on the sixth hen now.I think he will proof to be as good as 45 over the next number of years.
The beaut is the off spring from 45 is all producing good rollers!!!

Thanks again JOHN.

Hi Johnnie,

I will arrive in Manchester Friday June 27 and leave Sunday June 29. Just a quick trip but Wayne has told me the Middlbro boys are flying that Sunday and hope to spend Saturday visiting the other top flyers not going on Sunday.

Whose old family of birds are John's out of?

Thanks,

Ken

PS. I may get to SA yet. I changed jobs and now I'm selling Almonds for Blue Diamond Almond Growers - SA is one of my territories!

Ken,
You will have an awesome time with them. I am sure you will see John Wanless. You must make sure that you see his birds. I have seen birds all over the world and I have never seen better Quality than with him and Deno Forter, also in Middelsbourgh.
I am not sure who he got his birds from, I know he started with this family in the early 80.

Sure John will tell you later.
Enjoy your weekend and know that you are always welcome to visit if you do come to South Africa.

hi ken what a pity we/re not going to see you in mbro. we where all looking forward to meeting you. to see the top quality birds in eng you must visit mbro. every foreigner whos visited as said so.but hopefuly wayne can show you some decent birds somewhere in england. was also looking forward to showing you the 45 cock.he/s become a bit of a celebrity. i bread him off a father to daughter mating the father was a self black born in 83/he was still alive at 18 years when i lost him. his mother was a black badge born 1990/ i lent her to a mate in 2005& his dog killed her. as you can see they tend to live quite a long time.the self i got off a mate who bread him off a shackelton cock & a dexter hen.he was still filling 1 egg at 17 year old.the mother i bread myself. she was a picture even at 15 . the 45 resembles her . i pair the 45 to all my hens which are all his offsprings.then every now & again i use a out cross to him . which most of the time it works well.that gives me more of a wider scope to use his genes around my loft. in fact tonight im going to deano forster/s to borrow a hen he won the nationals with last year . one of the best rollers ive seen in years. i thought i have to try her to the 45 before he gets too old.

John, that's very interesting. Have his offspring managed to pass on the quality in anything like his numbers, do you know?

John.
I will be bringing Ken up on Sunday What he means is that on the Saturday i will take him to Mason and Moseley that Ken has requested to see and meet.
Just got to get him back to the airport for his flight back on Sunday late afternoon after the fly up there so is there any chance you could schedule the fly programme so you and Deano fly earlier rather than later so Ken gets to see you twos birds fly and he can go back home a happy man with a bit of luck Lol.
Hope this is right Ken??

hi shaun almost all my stock come through him apart from 4 or 5 off another old cock a black bald no 54 /1988. lots of his offspring produce good birds but not on his scale.although 1 cock produces almost as good. like i said he/s a 1 off. johnnie conradie in s/a has a son off him which always produces excellent birds. we seen them when we where all over there as good as anything over here. & he /s produced to a few diffrent hens.

I wish I'd known you three years ago, John, when I first started. You might've been able to save me breeding tons of 2nd rate birds to find the odd good'un.

Hi Wayne and John,

well I thought I would get to see the Middlbrough guys fly since Wayne had said that you guys were ne of the top regions currently and indicated that Sunday would be the day you all are flying. Wayne has it right that my return flight to Sweden is sunday evening. I'll see if I can make it later but I need to get back that night since I am flying home with my whole family that Monday morning from Arlanda.

Can someone post the fly schedule for that day?

Also, any other recommendations for kits to go see on Saturday that wouldn't be too far from wherever I am staying - perhaps with the Howarth's? I am looking to see a range of families in the air with an eye to a comparision of what I have seen here in the US.

Finally, John - which of the old timers families of the 1950's/60's/70's are your birds based from? Are they primarily Barretts, Skidmores, Masons, Harris, Shackelton, other?

Regards,

Ken

Thanks Chrissie for the good wishes. I am shocked to hear you packed in with the rollers.England has lost a great pigeon man.
Well it is making it easier for the South Africans to retain the Cup.hahahahaha

Good luck with your new ventures.

John,

thank you! Well it shouldn't be too hard getting on a plane from UK to Sweden(I hope).

I will certainly hang on as long as I can and perhaps I can catch a later flight.

I can't wait. See you soon.

Thanks,

Ken
