Steve, I'm still keen on doneks. I need your advice - what's the best way to get started? What I don't want to do is take another three years to find birds which can breed good birds themselves. Out of twenty odd youngsters from George, only a handful can breed good ones - and even that's hit and miss. I've found that so many young birds have to go in the bin, and that's after having to feed and fly them for quite some time before seeing they're not up to much.

So, with doneks, if I were to start again, ideally I'd like to be sure I was starting with birds I could breed from and get results. Trouble is I haven't a clue where to go. What do you reckon, Steve?

Chubs and Shaun i've spoke to my friend and there will be some Doneks available soon. Shaun you mention good ones to start with these birds have come from the Turks in London so i dont think you could get a better start as i dont think theres many to choose from in the UK at the momment.

Yes, Steve, I can appreciate they're quite hard to come by, so I'm happy to go with whatever's around. Just let me know when they're available. Of course, you being a new dad, you won't have time for pigeons, so you can send your doneks as well!

Good one, Steve. That says it all. Not very exciting and the point at which they dive down but then stop mid-air for a few seconds, while they flutter about - well I think they'd be a prime target for a hawk. Mine usually get nabbed whilst they're circling on the way up or down, so mid-air farting about and I reckon they'd be picked off easily. Give me a super fast dive straight onto the lawn or into the loft any day.
